Our founder, Eugene Bradley, voted against the “Measure A” tax measure proposed to voters in November 2000 to help bring BART to San Jose. “Neither VTA nor the Silicon Valley Manfacturing Group – proponents of the BART extension – never disclosed BART's history of cost overruns to county taxpayers,” said Mr. Bradley. "Worse, they are now considering an additional sales tax – on top of the three sales taxes we pay to run VTA – to complete a project they know they cannot afford." The news will come as no surprise to any voter who voted against 2000 Measure A, based on VTA's poor fiscal planning and current fiscal crisis. Mr. Bradley will speak about the delays in the BART extension at tonight's VTA Board meeting at 6:00pm at 70 W. Hedding St. in San Jose. It will be based on an agenda item that County Supervisor – and VTA Board member – Blanca Alvarado has added on tonight's agenda demanding the true costs of the San Jose BART extension. ### About the Santa Clara VTA Riders Union -------------------------------------- Founded in October 2000 by Eugene Bradley, the Santa Clara VTA Riders Union is a grassroots-based organization dedicated to ensuring that elected officials improve and implement cost-effective, frequent, and reliable mass transit in Santa Clara County.
