New Bus Stop For DeAnza

DeAnza College in Cupertino will have its own bus stop this summer.  At last Thursday's VTA Board meeting in San Jose, the Board voted to spend between $300,000 and $383,000 for a new, on-campus bus stop at the campus of DeAnza College.  "Currently, there is no existing on-campus bus stop to provide direct and convenient passenger access to the college, " according to the Agenda Item 19 where the Board will vote on the proposal.

Other highlights of last Thursday's VTA Board meeting included:

  • the fact that bus ridership is up over 5% from this time last year
  • there will be a Free Transit Day throughout VTA's bus and light rail system on June 18

Audio notes from this VTA Board meeting - and the meeting from last month - will be available shortly.

Highlights From Our Meeting

Brandi Childress from VTA Marketing was at our meeting on May 22.  Two highlights from that meeting were that VTA was not going to have a fare increase this year, largely due to its bus service restructuring it peformed January 14.  The other highlight is that VTA is planning to restructure light rail service later this year.  Part of that restructure, SCVTARU learned from Ms. Childress, could include a light rail bypass of downtown San Jose via Highway 87.

Formal notes on our May 22 meeting will be made publically available.
